Prerequisite: Student election
Cabinet provides the students with an opportunity to serve the student body, accept responsibility, and to participate in the management of various student activities. Members of cabinet must be juniors when they are elected so that they will be in office their senior year.

All legislative powers exercised by the Student Organization are vested in the student council, which consists of representatives elected from each class.

These courses do not qualify for NCAA initial-eligibility certification.

The yearbook staff produces the school yearbook which entails planning pages, drawing layouts, gathering information, writing copy, and composing pages for the sections of the book with the guidance of the instructor. Ordering, cropping, placing photographs, and selling ads are the duties of editors and staff. Experienced dependable photographers are needed. Applicants for the editorial staff should be able to write effectively, to do neat work, and to meet deadlines. Interested students must get an application from instructor.
STUDENT TUTOR
Course Length: 1 or 2 Semesters Grade Level: 9-12
Credit per Semester: 1.0 (2.0 Maximum) (Elective credit)
Prerequisite: Department chairman/teacher recommendation
The student must have a willingness for tutoring just as he/she would for any other class and have a teacher or department recommendation. This course is designed for the student who wishes responsibility, a chance to build self-confidence, contact with other people and reinforcement of past learning experiences. The student-tutor will work with one student or a small group of students in a specific course. One elective credit per semester will be given. The tutor will work five days a week for 50 to 60 minutes each day
PEER COUNSELING
Course Length: 1 or 2 Semesters Grade Level: 9-12
Credit per Semester: 1.0 (2.0 Maximum) (Elective credit)
Prerequisite: Department chairman/teacher recommendation
Peer counselors are students who have been specially trained in de-escalation, restorative practices, and social theory. They are desirous of reaching out and helping their peers. After completing the coursework, they are eligible to apply and undergo a rigorous screening and interview process before being selected to serve on the Restorative Council the following semester. Students are recommended by counselors, teachers, and fellow students or they can apply on their own. The most essential criterion for being selected is a caring attitude and interest in creating a safe, positive, engaged student community. The goal is to provide outreach and support to fellow students in a restorative model.
AVID 91, 92, 101, 102, 111, 112, 121, 122

Pre-requisite: Required grade point average
AVID is an academic elective class that students commit to for 3-4 years. Students must have a 2.0-3.5 G.P.A. to be eligible to apply for application into the program. AVID is a researched-based program that provides curriculum support for all academic areas using the high school AVID libraries. Students must be capable of completing a college preparatory path including some honors and AP classes. The AVID class will focus on pedagogy in writing, inquiry and collaboration. Reading strategies are taught to help students improve both reading and writing skills that will improve learning around state and district standards. The WICR process (writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading) is continued and required.
AIR FORCE JROTC 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
Course Length: 2 Semesters per year Grade Level: 9-12
Credit Per Semester: 1.0 (Physical Education, Social Studies/Science Elective, or Elective)
Pre-requisite: None
The mission of JROTC is to develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community. This course will educate and train students in citizenship, promote community service, instill responsibility, character, self-discipline, and leadership qualities. Mitchell High School is one of nine schools in Colorado to provide an Air Force JROTC program. The program is available to students in grades 9-12. Academic course credit will
apply towards graduation requirements.
