AVID is an academic elective class that students commit to for 3-4 years. Students must have a 2.0-3.5 G.P.A. to be eligible to apply for application into the program. AVID is a researched-based program that provides curriculum support for all academic areas using the high school AVID libraries. Students must be capable of completing a college preparatory path including some honors and AP classes. The AVID class will focus on pedagogy in writing, inquiry and collaboration. Reading strategies are taught to help students improve both reading and writing skills that will improve learning around state and district standards. The WICR process (writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading) is continued and required.

Cabinet provides the students with an opportunity to serve the student body, accept responsibility, and to participate in the management of various student activities. Members of cabinet must be juniors when they are elected so that they will be in office their senior year.

All legislative powers exercised by the Student Organization are vested in the student council, which consists of representatives elected from each class.
IB CP PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL SKILLS 1,2,3,4 SL

The personal and professional skills course aims to develop responsibility, practical problem-solving, good intellectual habits, ethical understandings, perseverance, resilience, an appreciation of identity and perspective, and an understanding of the complexity of the modern world. Emphasis is on the development of skills needed to successfully navigate higher education, the workplace and society. With that in mind the PPS will be very practical in nature.
IB THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE 1,2,3,4 HL

This course is obligatory for every candidate for the Diploma because it is a key element in the educational philosophy of the IB. Its purpose is to stimulate critical reflection upon knowledge and the experience of students both in and outside the classroom. The course is thus philosophical in the sense that it is meant to encourage students to acquire a critical awareness of what they and others know through analyzing concepts and arguments as well as the basis of value judgments.
FORENSICS 1,2

Forensics offers the opportunity to develop competitive speech skills in the areas of debate, oral interpretation, extemporaneous speaking, original oratory, and duet acting. Students may attend tournaments or may participate in community speaking projects to develop poise and self-confidence in the academic skills of public speaking.
PEER COUNSELOR

Peer counselors are students who have been specially trained in de-escalation, restorative practices, and social theory. They are desirous of reaching out and helping their peers. After completing the coursework, they are eligible to apply and undergo a rigorous screening and interview process before being selected to serve on the Restorative Council the following semester. Students are recommended by counselors, teachers, and fellow students or they can apply on their own. The most essential criterion for being selected is a caring attitude and interest in creating a safe, positive, engaged student community. The goal is to provide outreach and support to fellow students in a restorative model.
STUDENT TUTOR
Course Length: 1 or 2 Semesters

Prerequisite: Department chairman/teacher recommendation
The student must have a willingness for tutoring just as he/she would for any other class and have a teacher or department recommendation. This course is designed for the student who wishes responsibility, a chance to build self-confidence, contact with other people and reinforcement of past learning experiences. The student-tutor will work with one student or a small group of students in a specific course. One elective credit per semester will be given. The tutor will work five days a week for 50 to 60 minutes each day.

An academic elective that prepares students for success as lifelong learners. Through the Approaches to Learning framework, students will study and reflect on different aspects of their academic, social and personal lives in order to create understanding and habits that will establish a structure for a balanced and healthy life. IB Approaches to Learning courses introduce students to life skills to enable them to engage critically with others.

The yearbook staff produces the school yearbook which entails planning pages, drawing layouts, gathering information, writing copy, and composing pages for the sections of the book with the guidance of the instructor. Ordering, cropping, placing photographs, and selling ads are the duties of editors and staff. Experienced dependable photographers are needed. Applicants for the editorial staff should be able to write effectively, to do neat work, and to meet deadlines. Interested students must get an application from instructor.

Work Based Learning is essential to conceptualize, comprehend and apply employability skills. The opportunity for students to participate in industry field trips, industry events, job shadowing, internships, mentoring and other activities assures students 21st century real-world skills. 45+ hours of industry documented evidence with summaries is required per semester.
